Antiques
I have for years stored treasures and antiques with which I couldn't
bear to part. We recently inherited some other furniture, and are rapidly
running out of room. My husband swears I will have to go sleep in the
doghouse if we don't get rid of something.
Here are some really nice things I love:
1878 Eastlake Victorian Stairway
Includes
handrails, posts, and spindles. No steps. Solid
black walnut. Never painted or refinished.
Provenance:
This stairway was removed
from a mansion built on an island in Lake Erie after the Civil War. The
lake was encroaching upon the island and the house was in danger of
falling into the water.
Some friends of mine who were antique dealers
bought the salvage rights, and demolished the house. I bought many of
these antiques from them. (This was in Cleveland, OH, 1976). The stairway has been in
climate-controlled storage since that time.
Frosted Horse Glasses
Set of 8 iced tea glasses. They are in immaculate condition -- no
scratches, nicks, or discoloration of any kind.
Provenance:
These
date from approx. 1950. I think they were a wedding present to my mother.

Brass Bed
Double bed with headboard, footboard, and rails. Clean lines, no
dents. Photos available.
Provenance:
I purchased the bed at an estate sale in Cleveland, OH in
1977. Slept on it every night until I married in 1982; my husband
insisted on a queen-size bed, so it has been in storage since.
Rope Bed
This dates back to the time before box springs, when mattresses were
laid on a network of ropes strung between the head and footboards of the
bed. The finish has been partially stripped. Photos available.
